Archaeological geophysicist vancancies

Trainee / assistant geophysicist / geophysicist  – all grades

The company

Phase Site Investigations is a specialist geophysical survey company. We work in a variety of sectors, from archaeology to engineering geophysics and utility tracing, utilising a range of different geophysical techniques including ground penetrating radar, magnetics, microgravity electromagnetics and resistivity imaging.

We believe in collecting high quality data and producing informed interpretations and are committed to training and continual mentoring of our staff to ensure that they are able to collect, process and interpret the highest quality data possible.  We are a market leader in high resolution cart-based magnetic surveys and we apply the same dedication to quality and innovation to all the types of survey that we undertake.

The roles

Phase Site Investigations is looking to add to our geophysics team.  We have a role for a trainee but are also interested in people with existing geophysics experience from assistant through to senior team leader grades.  We would also be interested in applications from people with experience of archaeological geophysics who want to broaden their skillset and get involved in utility surveying as we are also looking to recruit for our utility surveying team.

For the trainee role all we require is someone who is hardworking, enthusiastic and willing to learn as full training will be provided.  It is anticipated that the trainee role would be for a period of up to 6 months with progression through to an assistant once the candidate has reached the appropriate level of competency and familiarity with our equipment and procedures.

For other positions we are looking for someone who has previous experience in archaeological geophysics or related engineering / environmental geophysics.

The positions will involve significant site work, often in challenging conditions, and is a physically demanding job but there will also be an office element involving processing data and assisting with drawing work.  There may also be scope to assist with interpretation and reporting for more experienced applicants.  We are looking for individuals who are keen to learn and take on added responsibility as their experience grows.  The role will involve archaeological surveys but you may also assist in the other types of survey work that we undertake so there will be variety in your workload.

Training will be given in all aspects of field work, processing and interpretation as required.  This is a permanent post with scope for career progression for someone who is motivated and hardworking.

We are based near Darlington but undertake surveys across the UK and so a driving licence and the flexibility to work away from home are crucial.  Occasional weekend work and staying away over weekends may be required.

The successful candidate must be motivated, enthusiastic, enjoy working outdoors and have the ability to work to tight deadlines.
